# Custom sender and languages

Send license keys from your own address, in your customers' language, with or without the Keyrail portal.

The emails Keyrail sends to **your customers** (license keys, customer-portal sign-in links) can come from your own address, in English or French. The emails Keyrail sends to **you** always come from Keyrail.

## Your sender address

In the dashboard, **Account & usage › Customer e-mails**, then **Save** ([dashboard guide](/docs/dashboard/#account)):

| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| **Sender name** | The name your customers see (default: your account name). |
| **Sender address** | For example `contact@example.com`. Used once its domain is verified (below); until then emails come from Keyrail’s address with your sender name, and replies go to your sender address. |
| **Reply-to address** | Optional. Empty: no Reply-To, replies go to the sender address. |
| **Default language** | English or French, when the purchase does not say. |

The top of the section shows the sender your customers currently see, and whether it is your domain or Keyrail’s address.

Nothing is ever blocked: if your domain is not verified, or stops verifying, emails keep going out from Keyrail’s address with your name.

## Verify your domain

In **Account & usage › Sending domain**, enter your domain (`example.com`), click **Add domain** (account owner only) and publish the records shown at your DNS provider:

| Record | Host | Why |
|---|---|---|
| TXT | `_keyrail-verification.example.com` | Proves that **your** Keyrail account owns the domain. The value is unique to your account. |
| TXT (Brevo code) | `example.com` | Domain verification for our email provider. |
| TXT (DKIM) | `mail._domainkey.example.com` | Signs your emails so mailbox providers trust them. |
| TXT (DMARC) | `_dmarc.example.com` | Recommended. If you already have one, keep yours. |
| SPF | `example.com` | Recommended. **Merge** `include:spf.brevo.com` into your existing SPF record; a domain has one SPF record only. |

SPF example for a domain whose mailboxes are at Zoho:

```text
v=spf1 include:zohomail.eu include:spf.brevo.com ~all
```

Then click **Verify now**. Both checks must pass: your TXT token and the DKIM records. DNS changes can take a few hours to be visible. Keyrail checks verified domains again every day; your address must be on the verified domain exactly (`contact@example.com`, not `contact@mail.example.com`).

A domain belongs to one Keyrail account at a time. A claim that was never verified is released after 7 days, so nobody can hold your domain hostage.

## Your customers' language

Each license has a language, `en` or `fr`, used for its emails:

- **Paddle**: pass it in the checkout’s custom data, `customData: { locale: "fr" }` (`langue` works too); otherwise the Paddle customer’s locale is used.
- **Lemon Squeezy**: `checkout[custom][locale]=fr` (it arrives as `meta.custom_data.locale`).
- **Manual licenses**: the `locale` field of `POST /v1/licenses`. Licenses created with **New license** in the dashboard use your default language; the license page shows the language in **E-mail language**.

`fr`, `fr-CA`, `fr_BE` give French; any other value gives English; nothing given uses your account’s default language.

## Customer portal

License-key emails link to the Keyrail [customer portal](/docs/customer-portal/), to your own portal (for example your Paddle customer portal), or to nothing: **Account & usage › Customer e-mails › Customer portal linked from the e-mails**, with the choices **Hosted portal**, **My own portal** and **No portal link**. With your own portal or none, the emails do not mention Keyrail and the Keyrail portal of your account is switched off.
